PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Not much to report this month, but a couple of things to mention.

First of all, Bobbie finished the financials from the rendezvous and all was as expected except for the auction receipts. We seem to be considerably short of our usual auction income to the tune of about $2,000. This will put us short on our budget for next year. We did well on our raffle we held this year and this short fall may make it necessary to try to repeat the raffle next year. Hopefully we do better at the fur sale auction.

I talked to George Sovie and he said the booth at the Puyallup Fair did well this year. I didn’t work in the booth, but the building we are in there has reduced traffic from our old location. George has changed the booth work schedule to reduce the workload for the membership and he said it worked well this year. I expect it to be similar next year.

Allan Worrell gave or will be giving a Trapper Training Course on Oct. 25 at the Cabellas store. Sorry, I know you won’t get this until it’s over. With the lead time I must write for this report, I didn’t find out a date in time.

I finished up writing a bill to hopefully be introduced at the next legislative session to change the trapping laws. I didn’t do this alone. I received a lot of input from the other officers of the association. I sent it off to Ed Owens and he forwarded on to some of our allies in the legislature. We will see what happens.

I had thought this would be an excellent year for our chances. The current economic conditions though make it more difficult. With a huge state deficit rearing it’s ugly head the legislature will be spending a lot of time on budgets. I fear this may squeeze us out. Ed says it will be tough. Nothing we can do though except forge ahead and hope for the best.

I said I would talk about the Hall of Fame inductees this month, but think I will put it off for another month.

By the time you read this, it’ll be the start of elk season and trapping season so good luck and hope you had a good deer season. — Bruce Vandervort
