PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello from Southern Oklahoma

It has been hot here until last week when we received 2 inches of rain, unheard of in July by it was sure welcomed and appreciated and we thanked God for the rain.

We will be going to the National NTA meeting in Lima,Ohio this weekend and will meet with all the dealers and magazine editors . We will attend the President’s dinner Wednesday night and the Awards Banquet Thursday night will be interesting to find out if our nomination of Monte Dodson will make the Hall of Fall of NTA.

We are looking forward to the fall meeting on Oct 12, 2013 at Okemah as we will have a lot of things going on , We will have several venders so you can purchase all your supplies you will need for the upcoming fur season. We will have a new vender in Mark June with his supplies and he will also do a demo on coyote and bobcat trapping, if you haven’t seen him you have missed a good demo. We will have a pot luck lunch at noon with pulled pork and side dishes and desserts being brought by all who wish to help.

Also Sterlen Kerschman from NAFA will be doing a skinning demo most of the day and Jeff Defore with NAFA will be there with the needed supplies and to help Sterlen answer all questions about NAFA.

We will be having our bi-annual election this fall with ballots to be sent out soon to all members. The members we have on the ballot for board of Directors and Executive committee positions have been active in helping to set up and clean up at the meeting and fur sales, donated funds to the OFBA from their own pockets, raised money for the youth camp, or donated items for fundraising auctions at OFBA meetings. They have also worked as counselors at the OFBA youth camp, offered to sponsor underprivileged youth for the OFBA youth camp, represented the OFBA at other trappers functions and worked with other state’s trapping organizations for the OFBA benefit. They also have sold fur at the annual fur auctions and spent their time contacting members by phone or e-mail for OFBA concerns. They have given information and instructions on trapping and bait and lure making and setting and taking care of their traps. These members are dedicated to the trapping world and OFBA to help the Oklahoma Fur Trappers to keep our way of life in this great state.

The following have consented to run in the following positions::

President — Cody Presley, Reginald Murray

Vice President — Noel Carruthers

Secretary —

Treasurer — Shannon Sheffert

Directors — Clifton Ray, R C Edgar, LLoyd Teeter, Shawn Bell, Joe Caldwell, Monte Dodson, Scott Newby, Charlie McAmis, Terry Waggoner, Keeling Grubb, Matt Yoakum, Tracy Anderson

Also we have two others that are coming back after being out for some time, they are Joe Stanbro and Sam McGill.

Be sure to come to the fall meeting at Okemah on Oct 12, 2013 at the fairgrounds and watch some very good demo’s with Mark June, R C Edgar Matt Yockum and Darrell Woodward and Sterlen Kirschman doing a skinning and stretching demo most all day. Also, we will have the election results and a good pot luck lunch with pulled pork and whatever else is furnished by the members.

Be sure and take a young person hunting fishing or trapping and introduce them to a new activity to keep our outdoor activities alive for the future.

May God Bless and Keep all healthy. — Gene Callaway
