SECRETARY’S REPORT
If my math is correct, the year and summer are more than half over. Just where does it go. If you put something away you put it somewhere and you can retrieve it later but with time you can not get it back or ever see it again. Something to think about.
Here we go again. The antis are trying to get another vote to stop any future wolf hunts. I cannot believe that these organizations have that much time and money to waste on issues like this. As of now, this year you will be able to buy a wolf hunting license for this upcoming season. It will cost $100 and will be available on the 3rd of August at 12 noon. It will be first come first serve. The license will be for hunting only. You will not be able to trap one. I guess that this means that we as trappers are better at the taking of predators than the hunters. Sounds like it to me. If you want a full set of the rules, you can go to the DNR website; www.michigan.gov/dnrdigests.
We had a meeting last July and I was not able to attend. Got the Info from Mark and it sounds as if there was not much going on. The convention is coming along just great according to Ken Mills. We had a Highway pickup on the 23rd of July and I do not have anything to report on this either because I was not there either. The Fur Harvester’s auction set a sales record for a June sale. Rats are still in there with an average of $14.27. Who would have thought that these little critters would maintain the prices that they have been getting at the auctions and else where.
Got some bad news the other day. One of our members, Richard Scheall, has walked on. He is now with all the other great trappers and outdoorsmen.
Like I have said before, our ranks are dwindling. We need some young blood in there to keep this outfit going.
We have an election of officers coming up at the General Membership meeting on Friday night of the convention.` The Treasurer and Vice-President positions are expiring this year along with 1 upper peninsula director and 1 lower peninsula director. They are open to any one who is interested in one of the positions. If you want this organization to continue as it has, I suggest that we get some new blood into our ranks. I am speaking for myself and I am getting to a point that I am getting burned out. I have one year left in my term of office as secretary and I will not run again. This time I mean what I say. I think that there are some other officers out there who feel the same way. I will not speak for them, only for myself.
The convention will be held at the Chippewa County Fair Grounds in Kinross on September 20th and 21st. There will be lots of camping spaces available. Primitive camping is $10 and full hookup is $17 and senior full hookup is $14. The township takes care of the camping. The demo schedule will be posted at the convention entrance or pick up a schedule when you enter the convention.
Hope to see you some where down the road. I hope every one is having a safe and good summer.
NEWS FLASH!!! I just heard over the radio that the wolf licenses will be sold on September 28th due to that the computers need to be upgraded. It just seems to get better and better all the time. Only in Michigan. — Jim Neitling
