SECRETARY’S REPORT
Is everyone out there sweating like I am? At this point I am wondering where our U.P. summers have gone. The summers that were mild with an occasional hot day. If you can believe this, It has been too hot for me to go fishing. I have waited long enough and am planning to go out this evening, even if I just go out and drown some worms.
The Adopt-A-Highway pick-up went real well. Either people are littering less or they are staying home. The trash along the road seemed to be way down. I sure hope people are getting to litter less and if they are I would like to thank them for their thoughtfulness. I want to thank everyone who came out to pick up trash.
We had a meeting at Gaylord a couple of weeks ago and the attendance was real good, especially for such a hot day.
Mark Spencer has ordered the sweatshirts with our logo on them. They will be ready by the time the Michigan Trappers have their convention in August. Mark passed around a picture of the shirts and they look real nice. We donated $1000 to the Sportsman’s Alliance. This was voted on during the meeting. The trapper’s education course will be on September 10th at the Brimley State Park. You can contact Mark Spencer or Mike Andersen to find out more about the class. There is going to be one in Escanaba but I do not have any info at this time.
Our Convention will be held at the Kinross fair grounds September 16 and 17th. We will have lots of space for campers. There will be either full hook-up or primitive style of camp sites available. I do not know the fees because they are handled by the township. They probably will be pretty much the same as last year. Ken Mills said the dealer building is filling up fast. So, if you want a booth space you better let Ken know as soon as possible. Lloyd White is looking for individuals to put on demos. Ken Mills is having a quilt made that will be given away at the convention. There will be lots of prizes being given away through out the convention and all you have to do is buy a chance on trying to obtain one of these prizes. We will have our annual meeting during the convention on Friday night at 7:30pm. It is usually held in the 4H building. The most important event will be the fish fry that will be put on by Gene and Vera Harrison on Thursday night. This is a great meal that is put on by great people. We will be having bonfires every night during the convention.
There will be an election of officers at the annual meeting. The positions that are up are the vice-president, treasurer, 2 director position. The 2 directors whose terms are up are Rick Marshall and Larry Pratt. If anyone is interested in running for any of these positions please contact one of the officers. It sure would be nice to see some of the younger members step up and take on one of these positions. Speaking for myself, some of us are getting older and would like some new blood in these leadership positions.
This is usually a good time to just sit around and unwind or just sit around and tell some tales.
We will be having our Adopt-A-Highway pick-up the Wednesday just before the convention.
Ken Mills gave talk for kids at the museum in St. Ignace. It sure is nice to have members donate their time and effort to educate the youngsters out there about the wildlife in their areas.
Hope to see you at the convention in September.
