SECRETARY’S REPORT
Well, here I am just returning from checking my traps in the rain. I have come up with a new method of making coyote and fox sets. It is called float dirthole set. Just add dry dirt if you can find some or build a raft to set your trap on. It has not stopped raining since last spring. This should give you an idea of how much rain we have had and how much water is standing around.
We had our last meting in October in Rudyard. It was well attended. I am real happy about the youngsters that were at the meeting. Every youngster won a door prize and then they received some more prizes after the oldsters gave them their prizes.
We voted to donate to the following organizations; United States Sportsman’s Alliance the sum of $1000, St. James Lutheran Church $75, Northland Sportsman’s Club of Gaylord $100, Salvation Army $300, and the Michigan Trapper’s Defense fund $2500.
We are once again going to have our annual trapper’s dinner on February 22nd. The cost will be $12 each for 1 trapper and 1 guest. Additional guests will be $15 each. There will be a social hour from 6pm to 7pm and dinner will be at 7pm. If you want anything to drink that is stronger than coffee or pop you will have to bring it with you. The dinner will be at Rudyard Township hall, next to the fire station on Mackinaw Trail. Mark should receive your money by Feb 14.
I read in the Michigan Outdoors News that Michigan United Conservation Club and Michigan Trapper’s Association are going to join forces to fight the referendum vote on the making it so that no one can hunt or trap wolves in the state of Michigan. This vote is not only against the hunting of wolves but our hunting and trapping rights are also in danger if this vote passes next year. They are asking that we as sportsmen donate some fur or deer hides at designated locations to be announced at a later date. This money that will be raised will go for the fight against this referendum.
The next meeting will be January 15, 2014 at Northland Sportsmans Club in Gaylord at 7:30 pm.
I hope everyone is having a great season this year. Be safe and enjoy yourself out there. — Jim Neitling
