PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Greetings everyone! This a short report, so here goes. District 2 Director Ron Gore is in the process of putting the details together for the summer/fall rendezvous. Mark this on your calendar – Aug. 22-23, 2009. Ron has a camp reserved for the weekend that is on a lake and has cabins and various other buildings on the site between Northwood and Golden Lake (in Steele County). There is plenty of room to camp or just stay overnight in one of the cabins. The lake has the variety of fish common to North Dakota and there might be some boats available with the camp.
Here are a few items that are already in the works: demonstrations on handling beaver pelts; reducing the potential to catch otter while beaver trapping; a fur grading and market report with Dave Bewick of North American Fur Auctions; and making wax dirt and foul-weather foothold trapping. In addition, there will be a competition muzzleloader shoot; maybe a fun fishing tournament; small-arms target shooting; and trapping supply vendors.
Remember, this is just a start to the list of things for the weekend. The camp has its own kitchen, so I’m sure there will be a lot of cooking being done and plenty to eat. Ron has a soft-serve ice cream vendor that has volunteered his time and ice cream free for the day, and plans are to have a pig roast Saturday evening with a bonfire and story time to follow. If you have ideas for Ron or would like to help, please let him know. His number is 543-3855.
Keep your membership current so you stay informed. Until next time, take care.
Catch ‘ya.
