VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Well I hope everyone is having a good season. I know I have had a ball this year. Three weeks in Bill’s camp, what a blast. We had a lot of fun and even caught some fur as well. It has been a long time since I set any footholds, but it comes back fast.
One thing is for sure, the 22 inches of snow on the third day reminded us of the good part of using snares. The antis still do not realize what a favor they did us when they forced us to use snares more. Those of us who were using snares knew they had potential. The loss of the foothold only proved it. Species specific, not effected by snow or rain, light to carry, and inexpensive, so when one is stolen you do not need a bank loan to replace it, what more could you ask for! Our trip up north reminded this old man that snares are a deadly tool under the right conditions. Remember when you are given lemons, make lemonade.
Do not forget we have two fur sales coming up Jan. 10 and 11 and March 21 and 22, no screwups on the timing like last year. Both sales will be held at Space Farms in Beemerville, NJ. As always, we will accept and grade fur on Saturday and sell it on Sunday. Checks will be available shortly after your fur is sold. Five percent for members and 7 percent for non-members. At $10 for a membership, you might as well join and support us. For more information, call me at 973-697-2981.
Also for those of you lucky enough to have been drawn for a beaver or otter permit, do not forget the sealing will be done both on the regular date, and at the January fur sale on Saturday Jan. 10 ONLY. The regular sealing will be done on Feb. 21, between 9 a.m. and noon. If for some reason you can not make it to the check station, then call Andy Burnett at 609-748-2058 or Joe Garris at 908-735-7040. Remember if someone other than the licence holder is checking pelts, you must have all the paperwork filled out completly. If you have any questions, call me. It is better to ask a question than make a mistake.
That’s enough for today. Remember, have fun, be safe and take a kid with you.
— Jim DeStephano
