GRAFTON COUNTY REPORT
The Feb. 21, 2009 Banquet was to be held at the Cat & Fiddle Restaurant in Concord, but was switched at the last minute to the Makris Lobster and Steak House. Event organizers found out on the evening news just a month prior to the banquet that the Cat & Fiddle had been sold. Thanks to Steve Bennett for scrambling to keep the event on the same date. Next month’s association news will have some details about the event.
The Annual NHTA Fur Sale was held this year on Jan. 17, 2009, at the Springfield Fire Station. There were less than 20 lots offered this year. There were, however, three buyers available to bid. The following are the totals: A total of 26 Muskrats were sold for $91.50 with an average of $3.52 and a high of $3.88. Eleven raccoons sold for $112, averaging $10.18 with a high of $15. Twelve mink sold for $99 with an average of $8.25 and high of $10. Thirteen red foxes went for $186, an average of $14.31 and a high of $19. Seven grey foxes brought $104 with an average of $14.86 and a high of $20. Sixty six beavers sold for $1,328 with an average of $20.12 and a high of $26.33. Six Coyotes went for $67 with an average of $11.17 and a high of $22. Three otters sold for $95 with an average of $31.67 with a high of $41. Sixteen fishers sold for $788 with an average of $49.25 and a high of $52.67. Seven skunks sold for $27 with an average of $3.86 and a high of $3.86. One weasel went for $2. We thank the buyers for attending and the trappers for donating 4 percent of the proceeds to the association.
The association is going to set up the booth in Franklin again this year. The Franklin Sportsmen’s Show will be held at the Franklin High School. Not the middle school where it was held in previous years, but in the High School which is right on Route 11 in Franklin. The event will take place March 14 and 15. Volunteers are needed to man the booth.
The spring meeting will be held Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Belknap Sportsmen’s Club. The clubhouse is located on 11C, or Lily Pond Road, in Gilford. Lily Pond Road is the short road between routes 11b and 11 that goes by the airport.
