REGION 3 REPORT

Today is the 2nd of Sept. already. Trapping season is just around the corner, or at least trap prep and prospecting needs to be done in the next month or so. Dove season opened yesterday, but it was so hot I just stayed where it was cool. There will another day with less heat.

A couple of things to pass along to the membership, is the Youth camp at Lotus Camp at Carlyle Lake, on Sept. 13-15. 30 kids max, and it’s all free. You just need to bring a tent and camping gear. Lot’s of fun for a small price of attending an 8 hour trapper ed class. One thing to mention right now is that we have a web site where most of this is posted fairly regularly, www.illinoistrappersassociation.com.

The Northern Youth Camp was postponed for lack of interest or so it seemed because according to Mike no one signed up, so it was cancelled.

It looks like Mike has lined up a good bunch for demo’s at the fall convention in Carlyle come Oct. 4 and 5. Remember the FREE FISH FRY on Friday night, that is held right before then annual business meeting and auction. Hall of Fame awards will be presented at this time as well. To my surprise just two names were submitted for Hall of Fame. Surely you folks have a name or two that you feel has worked hard for the association and maintaining the right to continue trapping. Try to send a name in next year.

A tid bit from the IDNR, 2,002 otters were legally harvested in our first otter season. I think this number probably fell somewhere near what was expected.

Trapper ED class at the convention will be conducted by Carroll Williams , so anyone needing this class in order to obtain your license, contact Carroll at 618-516-2275

Enough for now, take care and God Bless!! — Paul Kelley, Region 3 Director
