VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Happy Valentine’s Day. By the time you get this 45 days of 2014 have disappeared. The Stock Show is over and the Fur Auction is a thing of the past and hopefully prices didn’t tank too bad. Secretary Oleyar should have the meeting minutes available and auction results and other association business should be available next month as well. There has been quite a bit of turmoil in the industry and the economic outlook on all fronts does not appear to be as promising as originally thought. Kandy Herman continues working on the Furbearers Unlimited Banquet which will be held in late April in Grand Junction. For more information or to participate, contact Kandy directly at 970 379 6024.
Some members of the association have been supplying samples to the Grey Fox Study in Missouri along with other samples of Bobcats being submitted to Wildlife Services here in Colorado. Both have to do with sub species along with related diseases. It’s just another way to help in the Wildlife Management side of things.
Plans continue for this years convention/rendezvous and things are getting hashed out on some of the particulars. New Castle is the place, Labor Day Weekend is the date. A full line of activities is being planned and sponsorships are falling in as well. There are some things in the works pertaining to trapping but nothing is concrete as of yet, but I will keep you posted as to what happens. This fur season has been quite difficult with the weather and disease that I am running into. A couple of weeks ago one of my landowners got attacked at his front door by a Mountain Lion. It was about 4:30 in the morning while letting the dog out. The dog got attacked at his feet and he was also in the mix. Both are recovering.
On a more personal note Dick Hane’s wife, Joan, was having some significant health issues with surgery yesterday. Hopefully everything will be alright, keep them in your thoughts. Also not sure if everyone knew but last fall Don Loehnes a member from Canon City passed away. He attended many National Conventions and had quite a trap collection.
Try to sign up some new members, attend a commission meeting or just get involved.

News from our February Fur Auction and Membership Meeting will be posted in the next issue. I hope we will have lots of good news to share!

Every year we contribute towards a fur coat for Miss Rodeo America. We received this note from 2014 Queen Paige Nichelson: “Colorado Trappers Association, Thanks so much for your support for the 2014 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. I can’t wait to wear my fur.” We are sure she will look stunning in it!
And from Marv Miller, who recently moved to Texas: “Let me thank ya’ll for the many great times, memories, I had with you all and for the wonderful presents you gave me. I am having a good time in Texas with no oxygen since I left Colorado.” We sure miss you, Marv! — Cheryl Oleyar
