PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Trappers,

Well here goes another trapping season almost gone. The season on some fur is over at this time. I hear some folks did real well. Well where I am, it was not that good, too hot and no snow. Wildlife was in the lowlands and in the high ground. Had to cover a lot of ground to get anything. The coyotes were everywhere and hard to call in places. A lot of coons killed on the highways. Too tore up to pick up and skin. Some were so so.

The California Fish and Game Commission had a meeting in southern part of the state and it was not good. The meeting was looking at numerous proposed amendments to hunting regs. that could change how we hunt in this state. Some radical proposals are regulations for the implementation of a ban on the use of lead ammunition for all hunting in this state, ban all bobcat hunting and trapping in the state and ban the use of dogs for the pursuit and take of ALL wildlife in the state. That would mean no dogs for duck hunting or pheasant hunting, even doves. I mean all wildlife.

So talk to hunting clubs and other groups and let them know this has to be stopped, and the sooner the better. When I find out more, it will be here for all to read. The California Trappers is working on this and could use some help with members and some funds, so if you can please join us, Mercer and Reid are up on all the latest info.

That is about it for now. — John Clark
