PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Well, by now most of you are chasing critters and past the 70 degree weather of November finally. I hope that your trapping and predator hunting is going well. The fur market seems active, and seems to be interest in several items. So if your not out trapping, you probably should be.

I need to remind the membership that during the fall meeting it was approved that we increase our membership dues. That will go into effect Jan.1 , 2011. The increase will be from $25 to $30. We hated to do this, but it has been along time since we had a increase. And like other businesses, we are not recession proof.

We just found out recently that a radical animal rights group has made threats against trappers in all states and has a “hit list” of certain individuals in each state. Colorado has 5 people on that list, and all are aware of it. Most have turned it over to their local law enforcement agency. I just want those individuals to understand you need to be aware, and that threats at any level need to be addressed.

The National Western Stock Show is fast approaching. Don Clifford has most things in line for another successful show. Those dates are Jan. 8 thru the 23. If you would like to consign items contact Don Clifford. And if you would like to help at the event please contact Bruce Bartow at 208-521-4235 and he will arrange a schedule to have you help out.

Our Fur Auction will be held once again at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds in Hugo, CO Feb. 10 and 11. If you have any questions, want to send fur, or would like to help, please contact Greg Ashmore at 719-743-2552.

I have been working with the Division of Wildlife on getting our furbearer seasons changed. Its more of just cleaning them up. There is a “white paper” issued within the Division right now. Once that is approved it will become a “issue paper” and will be presented to the Wildlife Commission in March. I will keep you posted as things progress.

Hope you all have a wonderful Holiday season. Enjoy your activities, be safe, shoot straight and promote wise use.

— Otis Latham
