PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Good afternoon Trappers and Trapperets,
Well trapping season is just around the corner and all your gear should be ready to go. But is it? All of mine is not, and I just don’t know why I thought I was doing a good job with it. Well, I guess I didn’t do a few things I should have done, but I am working on it now. I should have it all ready by Nov. 11 I hope. I will be scouting trapping ground, deer hunting, doing some work and getting things done for my wife before winter sets in. After I get wood in the shed for this cold time that is coming, then I can go trap and do more hunting.
Talk about hunting. California Fish and Game Commission is saying they are going to vote soon on not allowing payment to hunters for shooting coyotes, such as in contests when you can win some money and prizes. If it passes, then trappers and predator hunters will have to come up with a way to reward the hunter for thining out a few coyotes. By killing two coyotes in the spring, you will save about 15 to 20 fawns. Every place I have killed coyotes in the past umteen years, on ranches and public land, has had an incredible increase in deer over the past few years. We can hunt coyotes year round in this state with no bag limit. Coyotes kill more things than a lot of people think from pets to people, including a little girl some years back in southern California right in her yard with her mother watching. Not a good thing.
Well enough of that for now, got to go gas up the pickup and go out on my trapline, change SD cards in my trail cams and cut a load of wood for the wife. — John Clark
