PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Once again Convention day saw clear skies and warm temps. The overnight rain finished at dawn just before the traders started setting up their wares. I would like to thank the following folks for donating for our raffles: Snare One, Kwik-Drop, Richie Rome, Doug Edlee, Gorlic’s Fur, John Epler, Glenn, Rid-A-Critter, Curt Habermann, Bud Eckert, Sunderland Trapping Supplies, Jack Allen and I hope Bill Phillips did not miss anyone.
Young and old trappers and families made another successful day on the Space Family farm. A time to catch up with friends and buy supplies for the upcoming season and speculation upon the fur market. The general meeting was started a littler after 1 p.m.
The first speaker was Mick Valent from the Divisions Nongame & Endangered Species department, who gave an update on the status of the bobcat in New Jersey. There will be studies in the near future as the division is now getting around to mammals. He urged trappers to report sightings and call the nearest regional office about accidental catches. He stressed no harm to anyone as they need data and information from his trappers survey. Noting changes that will affect us in the following seasons, his work on foot encapsulating devices (i.e. Lil Grizz, egg traps).
The next speaker was Jeanette Vreeland from the Fish & Game Council giving us an update on the ongoings within the state and various issues that have appeared on their table. John Euler gave us his take as a furbuyer on what furs and why they will be in demand this year.
A suggested change to the general meeting will be implemented next year. Elections were held with no nominations for new people. The same olds were reelected. A plea from Bill Guiles for members to get involved. We need more help at events as the same old team is still showing up to man the booth at various shows. Fur sale dates were set and possible a spring trappers education class.
I wish you a safe and bountiful harvest this year. Don’t forget to take a youngster with you. Yours in trapping.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Well, I am writing this just before Bill and I leave for his camp in the Adirondacks. If I do not get out of here, I will go crazy. This computer and I are still going around and around. After putting all the renewals and new members in this lousy machine, it was all lost. Don Rolfs had to come over again and find the memberships. I do not have a clue where they went. Only that all that work was gone. Thank God I am getting out of here.
The convention seemed to go well. No one complained. The raffles and other door prizes sold quite well. And the dinners sold at the normal rate. That’s what it was all about, good people having a good time. We owe all the dealers who setup a round of thanks. I hope they did well. The ones I spoke to said they were happy.
If prices hold in the area, John Epler was saying this should be a decent season, especialy now that gas prices are letting up a bit. Only time will tell.
I guess I better get going now. Remember, have fun, take a kid out and be safe. That is what this all about.
