PRESIDENT’S REPORT
By the time you read this our fall convention will be history. I am sure it was a good one.
Our gun raffle has gone very well.
Our membership has grown steadily and there is lots of interest in our organization. We have accomplished so many things in the past 12 months.
All of the trap supply vendors have indicated their sales have been very good this summer and fall.
Indications are that lots of trappers, game callers and hound hunters will take to the woods and prairies this fall in pursuit of our favorite critters.
Fur markets are always uncertain but for most of us the market isn’t the determining factor if we hunt or trap.
I always trap and predator call no matter what the prices are. For me personally I always enjoy the solitude of the woods and prairies when most of the bird and big game hunting seasons are over. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy having a partner sometimes. Especially when calling those sneaky coyotes. Having the kids or grand kids along when calling or checking traps makes for a special time also.. But I do enjoy the days with just me and Billy dog too.
To have a trapline or hunting dog to share my days with is really special to me. One time I was in a flea market type store and they had an outline of a dog cut from old barn wood. Etched into the wood was “ It is no coincidence that mans best friend does not speak”. Very true indeed.
I hope to get to work on traps and snares soon. Need to get to the woods and do some scouting and pre trap setting work too. Fall will be upon us soon.
