PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I as I write this on the last day of July it kind of comes between things so not as much to report as last month. A few things though.

First some good news. Initiative-160 in Montana failed to qualify for the ballot. I had an inkling that would happen as I reported last month but still good to hear confirmed.

The other thing is not a done deal yet but it is scheduled to go before the Fish and Wildlife Commission and I see no reason why it won’t pass. The laws on trapper reporting are set to change. Trappers report of catch will have to be in by April 20th and it is looking like WCO reports will go to once yearly and be due at the same time. Eventually there should be a combined report. Not yet but WDFW is looking at it.

Also, if you forget to send your report in they will no longer refuse you a license for the next year. Downside is you will get a ticket. It will be an infraction. The fine is still being talked about. We are trying for $10 same as hunters get for not reporting. Hunters don’t get a ticket though. It is called an administrative fee. To get that though we would have had to go through the legislature. August is a busy month for me with going to the fair with our booth and the Rendezvous so next month I’ll have something to talk about.

Western Washington Fair at Puyallup is still coming up in September and I’m looking for someone to break in as our lead person for the fair. Nothing to it really, attend a few meetings, help set up and tear down and check on the booth at the fair regularly. I don’t mind it but I’m so far away the travel is a killer.

Sure would like to see someone a little closer step up and take some of the load. Give me a call if you think you can help on it .

— Bruce Vandervort
