DISTRICT 8 REPORT
I hope the season met your expectations and you had a memorable and enjoyable time afield. Once again Dad and I shared some fantastic experiences and managed to pick up new trapping grounds. We even completed a couple of ADC jobs – can’t get much better than getting paid to trap when fur is prime.
Good news regarding the Fredericksburg Watershed Management Plan. The City Council approved and signed the plan. This opens the door to allow trapping on the 4,232 acres of land bordering the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers in five counties. The final step requires removal of the trapping prohibition from the City Code. A letter was sent from the VTA to the Mayor of Fredericksburg requesting this action be addressed at the next City Council session.
The DGIF 2011-2012 Hunting and Trapping Regulation Process is ongoing. On March 1st, the DGIF Staff will present recommended regulation amendments to the Board. A 45-day public comment period and public meetings will follow to gain our input on the proposed regulation changes. On May 3rd, the Staff will make final recommendations to the Board for approval.
The 2011 VTA Convention flyer, schedule of events, vendor layout, and volunteer list are posted on the VTA web site. We’ll need a host of volunteers to run the event so if you’re willing to help, give me a call [540-630-1756] or send an email [artfoltz@comcast.net] to add your name to the list.
Our next district meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 17th, at 6706 River Road, Fredericksburg. A meeting announcement with site directions will be sent to district members and guests; however, the event is open to all trappers or trapping-interested persons. If you would like to attend, please contact me for details and directions.
