PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello Tennessee Free Trappers. The TFTA had a good spring meeting that was held at Cedars of Lebanon State Park. A very nice day, although maybe folks were turkey hunting, working, at ball games, economy, who knows. Although the attendance was sparse, we all had a good time and trappers picked up some real good advice. Thanks to Jerry Pangle for coming out and doing some demos for us. Maybe the summer meeting will have a better turnout.
TFTA SUMMER MEET: This meeting will be held rain or shine on July 18, 2009, beginning at 9 a.m. EDT at the Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville, TN on Saturday, July 18, 2009. This meeting will be a pot luck type luncheon, so bring a covered dish if possible. Coffee and cold drinks will be provided by the TFTA. Please bring a donation item for our fundraising auction if possible. There will also be some trapping and snaring demos.
DIRECTIONS: To get here from Nashville: Take I-40 East, Exit #317, Travel South on US Hwy. 127 for 9 miles. The park entrance is on the right.. There will be TFTA signs pointing the way.
TWRA SETTING OF THE SEASONS FOR 2009: It’s time to begin thinking about the 2009 TWRA season’s meeting. Contact TFTA officers and directors. Let your officers know what you think. This meeting is usually held in June at the TWRA headquarters in Nashville, however a preliminary meeting is usually held in April (at the same location). Your concerns should be addressed to the TFTA President and directors at your earliest convenience.
TFTA FALL MEET: Will be held at Montgomery Bell State Park on Oct. 24, 2009. This meeting will be held at a shelter rain or shine. There will be signs pointing the way. Look for more information and directions on this fall meet in next issue of Trapper & Predator Caller or visit www.TennesseeFreeTrappers.com.
Thanks,
— Mike Renfro
STATE ORGANIZER’S REPORT
Coming up this October will be an election year. Now is not too soon to be thinking about who will be the officers of the TFTA for the year 2009 to 2010. Please consider nominating any TFTA member for one or more of the officer positions (before doing so, please ask them first to see if they would be willing to run for that office). Officers are elected for a term of two years by the membership at the annual fall meeting. The membership shall elect a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, state organizer, membership secretary and public relations/trapper education spokesman. The association directors, NTA Director and FTA director are appointed by the president. At the time of this report, the election committee chairman and committee has not yet been established. The names of the committee members will be announced in future issues of the Trapper & Predator Caller.
The new TFTA officers will be announced at the fall convention at Montgomery Bell State Park, Oct. 24, 2009.
An election commission will be formed consisting of members who are not currently officers of the association. Nomination can be made beginning three months before the annual fall meeting up until six weeks before the annual fall meeting. Nominations can be either in writing or by a phone call to one of the members of the election committee. Once a nomination has been made to the election committee, it is the responsibility of the election committee to contact the nominee for their acceptance of the nomination. After acceptance of the nomination, the election committee will then notify the election committee chairman so that their name can be entered on the ballot.
Once all nominations have been received, a ballot shall be prepared by the election committee chairman for mailing no earlier than one month prior to the annual fall meeting. One official ballot and envelope shall be mailed to each member who has paid his/her dues. Voting members can choose to either bring their ballot in person to the annual fall meeting or return it by mail to the election committee chairman. At the annual fall meeting, the ballots will be opened and counted in the presence of the general membership. The new officers will be announced and begin to serve their term.
If you are not a member of the NTA or FTA, please join and help support trapping and trappers. It is up to all of us. I’ll do my best to keep you posted on what’s next. Call me if I can be of assistance.
