The St. Lawrence County Trappers Association continues to sponsor teenagers attending New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) summer camps for the year 2010.
DEC’s Summer Camp Program continues its long tradition of providing quality, week-long adventures in conservation education for New York State residents ages 12 – 17.
DEC operates three residential camps for campers ages 12-14: Camp Colby in Saranac Lake, Franklin County; Camp DeBruce in Livingston Manor, Sullivan County; and Camp Rushford in Caneadea, Allegany County. In 1998, DEC opened a fourth camp at Pack Forest in Warrensburg, Warren County. The Pack Forest Program of environmental study is designed specifically for the 15-17 year old camper.
DEC camps provide the young people of New York State the opportunity to explore the beauty of our shared landscape while learning about natural resource conservation and the role that they might play as stewards of New York’s air, water, forests, and wildlife.
DEC education camp staff guides campers through a week of activities that take them to fields, forests, streams, and ponds as they uncover the interconnectedness of the natural world. Campers will observe wildlife, debate environmental issues, sample streams for microscopic life, explore the night sky, and at the same time, make new friends across New York State.
DEC campers have time to pursue and improve their skills in a wide variety of outdoor sporting interests including fishing, bird watching, orienteering, fly-tying, canoeing, hiking, camping, and hunter safety education.
If you are interested in attending one of the sessions, and would like the St. Lawrence County Trappers Association to consider sponsoring you, please contact Ethan Reynolds @ (315) 212-0283 by January 25, 2010. No applications can be accepted after this date.
Sincerely,
Trustees of SLCTA
