PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I hope this update catches you during a bountiful trapping season. I know the weather has added challenges to many. The deep snow certainly wasn’t desired, but makes things a little more interesting. I have talked to several people and have heard mixed responses. Some seem to be having a bountiful trapping season, whereas others are having a hard time. I have visited with several people who have been kept very busy with the large number of traps they’ve filled.

However, if you haven’t caught anything yet this season, you are not alone. I have talked to several individuals who haven’t caught a thing. One person took two weeks off work, only to be snowed out. Another individual I spoke with here in the Hills went ’cat trapping, only to find his only catch to be a domestic white cat (which is now his dear friend). Needless to say, this catch wasn’t exactly what he was looking for. I too was caught by the snow.

I had traps buried by the deep snow we received, but braved the snow to retrieve and pull them within the legal time limit. I haven’t let the snow deter me, only provide me the opportunity to take a different approach.

There isn’t much going on with the association right now, as everyone is busy doing what they love: trapping. I would like to remind everyone though that the Spring Convention is coming up at the Spring Lake Lodge on April 10 with the Skinning Bee to follow on April 11 at Peterson Furs near Ramona. I look forward to seeing you there. By the time you read this, our January director’s meeting will have taken place, so you should look for a detailed update in next month’s magazine. In the meantime, have fun and good luck.
