PRESIDENT’S REPORT

This summer certainly is giving us a full blast of heat and drought, but I’m sure the rain will start the day before trapping season opens up.

Every district is busy preparing for their annual trapping schools; a helping hand is always welcomed. All you have to do is make the call to your district leaders and ask how you can help at these events. One way everybody can contribute is to bring a new trapper to the school.

We also need to continue our efforts hosting the PGC’s Cable Restraint and Successful Furtaker certification classes. Please pass the word when you know a course is scheduled in your area. Currently there are classes listed throughout the state on the PGC’s website.

With the optimistic end of last year’s trapping season, we are all looking forward to the start of this trapping season.

The next meeting of the officers and directors is scheduled for October 1, 2011.

By then the leaves will be changing and cooler nights.

— Brian Mohn

DISTRICT 3 REPORT

Hello All,

Hopefully you get this report in time to make plans to attend the pig roast / picnic on August 27, at Cedar Creek Park. Picnic starts at 2:00, district supplies the pig and soft drinks, and everyone brings a covered dish. Hope to see you all there. Last year’s picnic had some incredible eats and no one left disappointed.

Our trapper’s school this year will be a combined District 3 school combined with the PGC’s successful furtaking class. All of our students, upon testing at the end of the day, will receive their cable restraint certification. If you’ve been contemplating attending the school, or going to a cr class, you can do both at the same time. The class will be held at the Youngwood Sportsmen Club on September 24. Sign up is on the Pa. Game Commission Web Site. A $15 charge applies.

Our fall newsletter went out around the 1st of the month with the scholarship application in it. Try to get the application into your college aged students hands before they head back to school. We would like to see a few more students try their hand at writing for us. If you didn’t get your newsletter for some reason, give me a call and I’ll get you one out asap.

Last but not least, don’t forget about the fall rendezvous at the Washington County Fairgrounds on October 2. We’ll have the usual, food, demos, dealers and plenty of trapper talk. See you at one of the events.

‘till next time.

— Dave Eckels, 724-348-6721
