DISTRICT 1 REPORT

By the time you read this, you should have any wrinkles worked out on your line. Over all this looks to be another good year for trappers.

A couple days before season started, I talked to two fur buyers in Western Oklahoma for some insight on prices. I talked to Arlon Kennedy from Watonga and Charlie McAmis of Arapaho. Both have routes in the northwestern part of the state and buy locally in their respective towns. Mr. Kennedy didn’t comment much on prices and I took it that he didn’t want to be misunderstood as the fur market may fluctuate. If you have trapped very long in western Oklahoma, you know of McAmis Fur Company (I sold fur to Charlie 30 years ago). Charlie did comment on the coon market and he felt prices may drop some compared to last season.

Trappers, these country buyers are a vital part of the fur industry! Wether you catch more than you can finish or if you don’t have the time to finish the fur, the country buyer is an important option. Please keep these men and other country buyers in mind this season as they provide an outlet for finished and unfinished fur as well as instruction on fur handling and trapping.

I wish you the very best of trapping seasons this year! Tight chains for everyone… — Clifton Ray
