SECRETARY’S REPORT
All I can say is that our friends to the north sure do like to share. They especially like to share their weather with us. We have been getting their weather throughout the entire winter. Thank you but you can stop sharing any time now. We have had quite a winter so far as far as snow and freezing temperatures go. The ground hog has predicted another six weeks of winter. I would have never guessed it. I am sure glad that we have such smart critters predicting the weather.
We had a meeting in January in Gaylord and had a good turnout and no snow storms to fight on the way there. We learned that the Citizens for Wildlife Management have a petition out and if enough signatures are obtained the proposal will be put on the ballot. The proposal will be a guarantee that scientific management will be used to determine any decisions for wildlife in the future. We learned about the process of obtaining signatures and what to do after we obtained them. I have also heard from other sportsmen that they are receiving petitions in the mail to get signatures on them also. One thing for sure is that if you sign the petition, make sure you are a registered voter and live in the county where you sign the petition.
By the time you read this we should have had our annual dinner and had some great food and a good time and maybe some of you won a door prize. I know in the past we have had a great time at the dinner.
The only thing that I have to report is that it is colder than an outhouse seat in the Klondike and that the snow is deeper than all get out. So far this winter we have used more wood than we have for an entire winter in the past. I have pulled my traps due to getting tired of digging them out of the snow and even the critters are staying home. I hope everyone is staying warm. If not, just put another log on the fire and move closer to the stove.
The next meeting will be March 19th in Rudyard at 7:30 pm at the Lutheran Church.
