PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello fellow NC trappers, I hope this report finds you doing well. I am just back from our annual convention and man am I ever pumped up. There is something about the convention that always kickstarts my trapper’s soul and makes me feel like a kid again. Looking around as I made my way through the crowded livestock arena Friday and Saturday, I think a lot of you feel the same. High fur prices have sparked a renewed interest in trapping and hopefully this will translate into more members and a stronger association.
My weekend seems like a blur now filled with images of old friends and new faces. I came home tired,but with a lot of ideas running through my head. A lot of work goes into this event and I have a lot of people to thank. First is my BOD. I would venture to say that these are some of the hardest working people that I know. They show up early, stay late and do what ever needs to be done. Words can’t describe the debt of gratitude that we owe to our Ladies Auxilary. These ladies and Gentlemen….. that’s right,I said gentlemen raised money,solved problems,ran contests and fed lunches to a small army and I could not be more proud of them. Then there are the members of the NCTA that always seem to show up just when they are needed. It takes alot of planning, preparation and hard work to pull this off. I am fortunate to have a group of folks behind me that makes my job easy.
I was pleased to see so many vendors set up to provide our membership with the latest and greatest in trapping supplies.
All who I have talked to were pleased with their sales and happy to have made the trip. Our friends from NAFA were also on hand to do fur handling demos and give out info on the wild fur shippers council and other promotions. I also have to take a moment to praise our cooks for all their hard work. These men put in a solid 10 hours on Friday and not only cooked for our cookout but also helped with lunch on both days. The spread for the Friday night cookout was awesome. If anyone went away hungry, I didn’t hear about it.
The thing that impressed me the most was how many brought their families to the convention. We as an association have strived hard to promote this as a family oriented event and this weekends turnout really reflected that we are succeeding at this goal.
I will close for now but I promise to have a full detailed report on the convention in the December issue. This will allow me to get all the names together to give credit where credit is due. For now, I will simply say thank you to all who attended and more over, all who made it possible. — Tony W. White
