VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello fellow trappers, my name is Tony White and I’m the new Vice President of the NCTA. As one of my duties, I will be writing this report for issues of the Trapper and Predator caller. In this first report, I’ll take time to tell you about our 39th annual convention, which took place in Smithfield, NC.
The weather was hot, but at least we had sunny skies, and our turn out was very good considering the economy. We had a full schedule of demos given by some new faces, as well as some familiar ones. Our vendors as reported vigorous sales, and were pleased to have made the trip.
The NCWRC set up their safari trailer, and presided over the black powder shoot. The archery contest was handled by the Gilfourd bowhunters association, and we are grateful to both of these organizations for their help and support.
The Friday night trapperman cookout was awesome. Our cooks, including Rodney Stancil, Kevin Myers, Council Burney, and Todd Creech, manned the grills in 90 plus degree heat and did not disappoint. As always, the ladies auxiliary was busy with their raffle, bake sale, and the lunch they provided both Friday and Saturday. Sharon Underwood, Katie Kobersy, Mario Kobersy, Amanda Raxton, Council and Mattie Burney, Belin and Debbie Watson, and her cousin Belinda did an amazing job, and we owe these folks a great debt of gratitude.
At our general membership meeting, Tom Tyree of NAFA presented President Rodney Stencil with a check for $187.40. This represents the percentage of North Carolina fur sales that NAFA gives back annually. Lobbiest Michael Mann, who represents our interest in Raleigh, addressed our membership and spoke with great optimism about our efforts to gain a statewide fox season.

Finally, a convention like this takes the united effort of a lot of hardworking people to be a success. Luckily, the NCTA has an abundance of just this type of people. These folks show up early, stay late, and do whatever needs to be done to make this convention and this association successful. A few names that come to mind are Vernon Thompson, Rocky Schuyler, Neil Jennings, Steve Brown, Prune Windspear, David Allen and Leary Sink. These men work behind the scenes all weekend to make things run smoothly.
In closing, I would like to thank all who attended for supporting you Trappers Association and hope that you all have a great trapping season.
