PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello fellow NC trappers, I hope that this report finds you doing well. As I sit down to write this, northeastern NC is blanketed with about 8 inches of fresh snow. It has been a harsh trapping season thus far, it seems that every time that I get my work caught up so that I can set a few traps, it freezes or snows. But, that’s trapping I guess.

I have been getting some feed back on possibly switching our magazine subscription and it has been pretty well split down the middle so far. You should have received your spring newsletter which has a slip for you to fill out stating your choice. Please fill them out and mail them tome. This is your chance to be heard.

I also want to remind you that with spring approaching, that we will again be putting on our trappers education courses around the state. These will be 1 day courses offer on Saturdays which are free and our advanced 3 day course which includes running an actual live trapline. This course costs $300 which includes lodging and food. The dates and locations will appear on our website and on the NCWRC website around the 1st of April .

The NAFA Feb. sale is fast approaching and I know a lot of folks are worried about the fur market corrections that are forecasted. We have seen a very good market over the past few seasons and some sort of correction is needed so that we don’t run it off a cliff. Those of you who were around for the fur market crash of 1987 know what I’m talking about. A market paying $17 for muskrats can not sustain it’s self, so I’ll be happy with $8 and remember when I sold them for .75 cents. Prices will rise and prices will fall. I am going to trap either way.

Well, That’s all I have for now. Be safe and please try to share some of your outdoor adventures with a youngster. You will both be better off for it. — Tony W. White
