VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Well, by the time you read this, the season will be in the history books. Without a doubt, this has been a challenging season. Bad weather, low price predictions, a lot of people out of work or afraid of losing their job, all put a damper on everyone’s season. But, somehow, we got through it. And like always, we are starting to look forward to next year. At this time, there are rumors that due to a short catch some prices will not be as bad as predicted. I hope that is true. We all could use some good news for a change. Personally, I blame the news media for a lot of the problems. They keep dwelling on the bad things and fear makes people fall in line. Oh well!

On a lighter note, I just got back from two weeks in Alabama. George and Pat Wacha invited me down to help George catch some beaver. It was a blast. Old friends, new country and a lot of fun. Since a nonresident license is $500, I passed. But beaver are a pest animal, so I just set for them. George did all the land trapping. That way I got to spend a little time with George and watch a pro work. Hopefully some of what I saw will still be with me when Bill and I go back to the Adirondacks. Our bobcat skills need some work.

We even got hit with a snow storm while I was down there — 4 inches. It paralyzed the state. Up here they would not even close school. George had his granddaughter stay with him for a couple of days then. She is 16 and had never seen snow in her life. Now she has. All she wanted to do was have snowball fight with anybody who would play with her. It has been a long time since I had that much fun. You forget what it is like to be kid.

Remember, we meet every month. New faces are always welcome. Bill Guiles has offered to have the meetings at his house each month. It seems that we get a better turnout at his house. If you would like to attend, call me at 973-697-2981, and I will have Bill put you on the mailing list.

That is enough for now. Remember, be safe, have fun and take a kid with you. They are our future.

— Jim DeStephano
