PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Optimism prevails! With the approach of trapping season, word of improved prices is bringing many new faces and many who have been out for some time. Keep in mind that this has a flip side also: Increased competition, theft of trapped fur, poor judgment in making sets in an effort to maximize catches. Please, please keep this in mind as trapping begins. We certainly do not want to be creating problems!
For those unable to attend the Annual Fall Convention, it was a real barn burner. The weather was near perfect; the facilities at Crete, as last year, were great. Attendance was very, very good. The Fish fry/potluck on Friday night and barbeque on Saturday night continue to be very popular. The consignment and White Elephant auctions went very well. Again, we had lots of support from Craig Sweet and the Iowa boys.
Eric Stane had a very busy and eventful summer, but put a lot of time, effort, and planning to put this together and pull it off. He did recruit a very good team of helpers.
Jason Reynoldson will be hosting the Convention at Albion next fall. Dave Hastings will be hosting the Spring meeting at Karp and Krow at Ord.
I will report some of the results of the auction and raffles: The Messberg .243 rifle was won by Jerry Kramer of Ord; Jerry had donated a new, in the box, Henry Lever Action .22. Thanks, Jerry! The engraved Dunn knife for the $1 ticket was won by Jake Jakubowski. The membership drawing for the engraved Dunn Knife was won by Dave Ellinghausen of West Point, the 1 year membership extension went to Steve Kier. The Brown Hat brought $90.00 and was bought by Tom Bartak.
The Black Box has been around several auctions, and was brought back by the Iowa crew. It was purchased by Gary Bodenus for $80. Gary had donated a knife that he made to the auction. With all the great things that went on and all the fun, a big black cloud came over when some low life took a man’s auction purchases from the kitchen while the man was helping with the auction. Also, Charlie Weber had knives taken from his table. Charlie may have cooked and served fish to the individual who took the knives. — Don Miller
We had a great time at our booth. A big THANKS to all who had a part in putting it together. We look forward to next years show. Thank you from all of us at Minaska Outdoors.
