DISTRICT 8 REPORT

Another fine meeting with total attendance of 10. Several others were missed. I was reminded we had five life members in our normal group. Four of them were there tonight. We welcomed Bob Calloway Jr. to our group. He does not trap, but sure seemed to enjoy our group.

Dist 8 lost one of its founding members with the passing of Sam Hendrickson, 89, a retired farmer. He was one of six trappers that got Dist 8 off the ground. On display in his casket was a NTA Convention patch from Richmond , Va. I think he took it with him. He and his wife had been married for 68 years, WOW.

December was fur donation month for Dist 8. Jamie and Roger each donated a fox pelt. Norman donated $20. Jamie will sell the furs for us to local buyer, Wm Byler. The proceeds will go to our hosts Bob and Verna Calloway for their fine hospitality. Additional donations can be made at our January Meeting on the 28th.

The 2015 NTA convention in NY was mentioned. Been I while since it has been held on the east coast.

Norman shared info about his recent elk hunt out west. He learned a lot and talks like he may return.

None of us killed any bragging bucks during deer season. There is always muzzle loader season or next year.

We had quite a discussion on local fur buyers. It came up as a result of rumors of our local buyer not buying fur this year. It seems it was back and forth for a while, but it is business as usual for him at least this year. Him not buying would be the worse news we could have here on the Eastern Shore.

Each trapper told of their trapping adventures since the last meeting. We always have several outstanding stories to be shared between us. Fox trapping has been slow since last meeting. Deer season and bad weather will do that.

New, since our meeting. Another fur buyer is interested in sending a weekly buyer to the Eastern Shore. His timing seems good with the uncertainly of our local buyer for next year. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Stay tuned.

Dist 8 welcomes all members and guests. Come share your trapping wisdom.

Dist 8 meets the fourth Tuesday at 7;00 PM during trapping season at the home of Robert Calloway. Bob lives at 14313 Cherry lane, near Tuckahoe State Park, between Centreville, Md and Ridgely, Md. Call Bob at 410-634-2501 for further directions.
