DISTRICT 8 REPORT

Six trappers attended our December meeting. Not too bad considering the roads were still snowy. Dist 8 welcomes Andrew Roberts from Easton, Md. He is new to the area, plus new to trapping. He is looking for trapping lands in his area and is eager to learn. A couple of attending members trap close to him and are going to help him out.

Hosts Bob And Verna Calloway were presented with a gift certificate to one of their favorite restaurants from Dist 8. Better hosts could not be found. They have opened their home to Dist 8 for number of years now. We thank them for all they have done.

An internet state by state hit list against trappers was discussed. They have a web site and have to be considered a serious threat.

Roger Ringgold reported his usual beaver trapping permit to trap on Tuckahe State Park was denied this year. It seems the higher ups do not support trapping. This seems to be what we can expect in our future.

A trapping incident concerning a cat killed in a trap in the Mt Airey area was discussed. It resulted in another small area closed to trapping.

The NTA cash calendars were offered and discussed. Various recent emails were discussed. One was about air skinning a coyote, new state shipping tags, a program to score deer antlers from pictures, and the results of the deer gun season being down 9 per cent.

Roger Ringgold reported changing to a new email address. It is listed at the end of this report. The old one had a virus and was sending out spam emails on its own. I apologize to any who may have received them from my address.

Fur prices and member trapping activity were discussed in detail.

The Masons Branch Bridge near our meeting site was scheduled to be opened by Christmas. It did not happen. Due to the freezing weather it looks like it will be at least March sometime before it opens.

Dist 8 welcomes visitors along with any MFT members. We would like to have your input at our meeting.

Dist 8 meets the fourth Tuesday during trapping season at the home of Bob Callowayat 7:00 PM. His address is 14313 Cherry Lane and is located near Tuckahoe State Park , between Centreville, Md and Ridgely, Md. Call Bob at 410-634-2501 for further directions.

Trap on.
