In Passing: Emmett (Bill) Goettel

Emmett (Bill) Goettel

Emmett William (Bill) Goettel, 81, of Monongahela, Forward Twp., passed away May 24, 2013. Proud Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Bill was a US army veteran of the Korean War, and was retired from the Port Authority of Allegheny County. Mr. Goettel was an avid outdoorsman, sportsman, and historian. He was a lifetime member of the PTA, NRA, and the NTA, member of the directors of the Monongahela River Buffs and involved with both the Elizabeth Township and Monongahela historical societies. He and his loving wife Loretta, who survives, were married in 1958, and were lifelong residents of Forward Township, where they raised their four children.

Bill was an active member of District 3 of the Pa. Trapper’s Association for many years, in fact, it was Bill who drove me up to the D-3 Stockdale fur auction before I could drive, back in the late 70’s to help set up the plywood dividers for the fur lots. That was in the fur boom years, and with Bill and the other handful of D-3 workers, the auctions were always a huge success. It was amazing how much fur came through that door. Bill was selected as District 3’s trapper of the year in 1980, and received the D-3 “Lifetime Achievement Award” at our banquet in 2010.
