PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Another trapping season is around the corner! Time to cleanup traps from last season, remove old wire and replace any missing tags. Repair any broken triggers and chains. Boil and dye the traps for the new season. This time of year I start contacting landowners for my yearly permission slips, get my State Land permit in order, prepare bait and inventory my supplies.
The CTA Annual Rendezvous is scheduled for October 1st, 2011 at the Fin, Fur, and Feather Club in Chaplin Connecticut. The event starts at 8 am with breakfast being served. The CTA Rendezvous is our yearly event open to all members that hosts many trapping demos, skinning / fur handling demonstrations, trapping supply sales both new and used equipment, and DEP presentations/info sharing. The CTA Rendezvous also is our yearly venue for the CTA Membership meeting to elect new Officers and present awards.
What a year! The CTA hosted this years NTA Northeast Regional Convention at the Berlin Fairgrounds. It was a huge “stake in the sand” for Connecticut trappers to let everyone know that fur trapping is alive and well in Connecticut. I hope many of you had a chancre to attend; it was a great experience for me personally.
I want to thank all of the CTA members who volunteered their time to make the NTA Regional Convention a success. The Massachusetts Trappers Association volunteers to lending a huge hand in assisting the CTA. The local Boy Scout troop in Berlin Connecticut who took care of our daily refuse collection duties. NTA representatives Dan Skurski Karola Owens and Jenny Hollars. Dave Shutleworth and Cindy Seff from FurBearers Unlimited. All of our sponsors, the vendors and tailgaters who participated in the event and all of the trappers who volunteered their time to perform demonstrations.
Though this years NTA Regional Convention may not have been a financial or attendance success, it was a major success for the CTA in demonstrating our commitment, pride and dedication in preserving our heritage in fur trapping here in Connecticut. This event truly proved to our trapping community that the CTA’s motto of “Conservation Through Association” is more than just a slogan.
I’m sure many of you are wondering why there aren’t CTA reports in every publication, all I can say is that there are a handful of us working behind the scenes in keeping the CTA alive with more than our yearly dues. We need your support, please think about becoming an active member. We have a few open positions, we are especially in need of a new Secretary and Treasurer.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the CTA Yearly Rendezvous on October 1st at the Fin, Fur, and Feather Club.
May your boots stay dry and your plews be prime. — Herb Sobanski Jr.
VICE PRESIDENT WEST’S REPORT
Well, Summer is slowly coming to a close, so we all should be on our way to getting our gear ready for trapping season. I would like to at this time say thanks to ALL who helped to make the North East Regional N. T. A. Convention a success on our part. Our fall Rendevez will be here before you know it for any last minuet supplies that are needed. Hopefully you as members have gotten to know some of or all of your officers and that they have preformed successfully to your high standards. I’m actually looking forward to our fur sale to see all once again and to see what kind of fur prices are available for this season.
Good luck on your line this season, be safe, use your heads out there.
Respectfully submitted.
— Fred J. Becker
