SECRETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to trappers and their families! Hope everyone is having a good season and having time to spend with families this holiday season.
AFTA will have a trappers booth at Beast Feast 2014 sponsored by Momentum Church of Van Buren, AR. The event will be held at Kay Rodgers Park Expo Center in Fort Smith from 1pm until 8pm Saturday January 11. Activities include hunting seminars, wild game cookoff, live music, big buck contest, comedian Jonnie W and more. At the AFTA booth we’ll have logo hats for sale and membership forms available. If you’re in the area that day, stop by and say hi , and sample some of the wild game cooking.
Folks of all ages stopped by to chat at our trapper table at the Fort Smith Gun & Knife Show in downtown Fort Smith back in November. Met half dozen or so youngsters very interested in learning how to trap and met some experienced fellows who’ve been doing it for years. Several people stopped by just to say they’re glad to see us out promoting the fur trade. And that’s what it’s all about. Thanks to Tim at High Caliber Radio for allowing us to attend. High Caliber Radio sponsors gun shows in Fort Smith a few times a year and always has a good selection of guns and gun-related merchandise for sale.
Forgot to mention last month that AFTA was represented at Ladies Day at the Cabelas store in Rogers, AR back in October. US Sportsmans Alliance coordinated a Trailblazer Event in the store on the same day. AFTA had a table with furs and traps, and had lots of ladies stop by to admire the fur and tell us their trapping and critter stories. Cabelas had pistol seminars and bow hunting seminars for the ladies and several other outdoors organizations had display tables setup around the store. Cabelas is a big supporter of U.S. Sportsman’s Alliance and both are big supporters of trapping, hunting and fishing. Thanks to Cabelas and USSA for allowing us to attend.
Only sixty days left in the general land trapping season. Fur for all species should be very good and prime at this time. Good Luck! — Mark Alexander
