DISTRICT 1 REPORT
Hi trappers,
Well our time of year is finally here. It sure is nice to get out a few traps and handle some fur. It’s Halloween night as I’m finishing this report, I had 14 above this morning and most sets had 1/2 to 3/4” of ice over them. It’s going to be hard to get everything set-up and running when it’s making ice like this, I’m using all my time maintaining just what I have out. I think I got spoiled the last several years when we had 3 weeks or more of open water. This is back like it was in the good old days !
Both auction houses have issued the upcoming seasons market forecast and prices on most articles should be favorable. Worldwide demand for wild fur is certainly there and a cold start to winter in the major fur consuming nations of China and Russia would also help us. Remember to be extra careful when using 220’s on land, as I’ve said in previous reports if there is any possibility of catching a pet– DON’T SET– find a better location.
I forgot to mention in last month’s report that someone left a reverseable camo/ canvas carhartt type jacket at the meeting in Cotton. I have the jacket at home, give me a call and I’ll make arrangements to get it back to you. Also if you plan on attending the Legal Defense Banquet on Jan. 5, better give Gary Meis a call to see if any tickets are available. As I said before it’s a great night out and the proceeds go to a very good cause.
I’ve got fur just waiting to be put up out in the garage so I’m keeping this report short. Good luck to you all and stay safe. — Bert
DISTRICT 4 REPORT
Greetings District 4,
It is a busy time for all. Most seasons have opened. I hope your sheds have some color. I hope you all have a safe and profitable season.
We had our fall meeting on Oct. 9. All in attendance listened to a very informative demo on wolf trapping. Thanks go out to Scott Staples, Wayne Thom and Steve Hall for sharing their knowledge and experience with the rest of us. Thank you again for your time.
Remember in 2013 you will need to upgrade your trap tags as some of your old ones will no longer be good.
Our winter meeting is Jan. 5 and the Legal Defense Banquet is that evening.
Last, and most important, watch where you set those conibears.
Till next time. — Buzz
DISTRICT 5 REPORT
Hello everyone,
We had out fall meeting at Melby’s on Saturday, October 6th, we had a very good turnout.
We had a volunteer signup for the 2012 summer convention in Litchfield. A lot of people signed up. We will need a lot of volunteers, from setting up on Wednesday to cleanup on Sunday. If anyone can help out please call and let Jerry, Mark or I know, even if you can only help for an hour or two. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the convention, the more help, the easier it is on everyone.
Our district 5 winter meeting will be at at Johnson Fur the 1st Saturday of February, 2013. I will send out postcard reminders in January. Please bring your postcard along for a drawing for traps.
The Legal Defense Banquet will be held at the Askov Community center on Saturday evening, January 5th, doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will be at 7 p.m. If you haven’t gone to the lat two, try to make this one. Gary Meis is handling the tickets, his phone # is (320) 838-1570, do not call after 9 p.m.
We are also still taking donations for the Banquet, if you have something you would like to donate contact Buzz Neprud at (218) 851-5989 or your Director or Co-director.
Our winter MTA meeting will be held at Askov again this year at the East Central School on Saturday, January 5th.
Take care. — Pete
DISTRICT 7 REPORT
Hello fellow trappers. I hope that everyone is having a good trapping season.
The winter meeting will be held January 5 in Askov at East Central School. This is the same location as last year. There will be plenty of events going on. The Legal Defense Banquet will be held Saturday evening at the Askov Community Center. This is a good time, so plan early, tickets are limited. You can get your tickets by contacting Gary Meis.
We will again be having the District 7 Spring meeting in Dovray. We are planning on having a skinning bee again after the meeting, with all donations going to the tanned fur project. So please plan accordingly. Details are being worked out, so please watch upcoming publications for information.
Here are a couple of things to add to your calendar for next year. Plans are in process for the MTA convention in Litchfield next year. This will be August 16-18, 2013. This is later than normal for the convention. Also the FTA Convention will be in Marshfield, WI the last weekend of June.
Until next time. From my family to yours, Happy Holidays! — Leon Windschitl
