REPORT
It seems this has been a real barn burner of a season for fur prices. I am writing this a few weeks before our fur sale, but all the reports say we are in for some great prices. All the auctions so far this year have been very positive. The fur market is rebounding in Europe and China. And they are looking to North America for a quality product. FUR! Lets see how long the boom lasts this time. One good thing about fur is that it is a renewable resource, unlike synthetics that are made from oil. As long as we do not overharvest the next year will be just as good as the last year. In fact by taking the excess animals we allow the remainder to come out of the winter in good shape. Less disease and stronger litters mean a more robust population. Just look what happened when the foothold trap was lost. Many trappers would not adapt to the new way to harvest fur and the population exploded. Then nature stepped in and disease did what the trapper did in the past. The population crashed, Lets all enjoy it while it lasts.
One thing that really bothers me is that some people are still posting pictures online that should not be there. While you and I may think a picture is pretty neat, others look at them and cringe. Be careful of what you post. We do not have the luxury of being able to explain what we are trying to show to people online. We can only offend them.
Now that the season is over it is time to start getting ready for next season. You know, all those things that you ran out of, or broke this season. Remember to support those dealers who have supported the association in the past. They are the reason our convention is as good as it has been.
That is enough for this month. Remember, be safe , have fun, and take a kid with you. They are our future. — Jim
