PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Everyone
I just got back from Convention late Sunday afternoon, and since the deadline for getting this article is close, I will give a very brief report on the Convention. Mostly it will be a collection of “Thank you” notes, although that will not be complete. If I fail to mention you, please be assured it was not intentional.

First off, let’s all thank John Self of Buck’s Hunting and Trapping Supply for all his efforts in putting on the Convention. Also a “thank you” goes to John’s sons Forrest and Jeremy for pushing bleachers and cleanup. Gary Keister with the John Deere Tractor, moving the flatbed trailers and bleachers; Lyle Thelin, Dana Leffler, Larry Sack (clear from North Platte), Greg Schroeder were all a big help.

Donna Trompke, of Trompke Business Services, was the friendly, efficient lady who ran the NFH booth on Saturday. She is the one who handles our memberships and gets e-mails to our “digitally challenged” president. I hope you stopped by and said “Hi.”

Thank you to our demo people. We did have a couple who were unable to come due to health problems in their families. We found very competent replacements (on very short notice) in Dennis Vickers, Shane Adcock, and Scott Lickteig. Mike Lance ran a Trap Toss for the younger set—Thanks, Mike.

Doug Eskew and family ran our auction and did a fine job, coming from Cozad/Gothenburg at a busy time of the year for their Trucking/Auction business. They also bought the last Miss Nebraska fur coat. Their daughter certainly looked fine showing it off! Dave Kuhlmann bought the Brown Hat, which had been in Joe Jack’s possession for several years, I believe. Jerry Kramer of Ord took home the rifle, whose name was drawn at the end of the auction.

A meeting on LB743 was held Friday after the demo schedule. It should have been on Saturday, but with the general membership meeting, barbecue (with Petska Fur providing the meat) and the auction following the barbecue, we held the LB743 meeting on Friday. The main point was I had contacted Senator Christensen 10 days before the Convention. He said, “I’ve already got it in the works for next session.” The election is fast approaching and quite a few senators are term limited or up for re-election at the end of their first term — so make sure you are aware of their views. Also, make sure they know you and your views. As before, I got a contact list to testify at the Natural Resources Committee hearing. When it gets passed out of this Committee, it gets it’s number. Anyway, this is the only chance we have to testify for the bill. However, at any time we can visit with our Senator to make our thoughts known and remind him/her to help push this bill through. Some of us don’t feel comfortable with this nor are we interested in politics. But the fact is, it’s a different time and world. From now on we will always have to be aware of politics. Those who attended the Friday afternoon meeting, please pass the word along as I need more names on my contact list.

On my way back home Sunday, I called Jason Reynoldson and viewed the facilities at Albion — the site of the 2009 Convention — excellent.

On a closing note, didn’t John have beautiful weather for the weekend?! — Don Miller
