PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello Wisconsin Trappers,
It looks as though spring is just around the corner. As I write this, sunshine and warmer temperatures are in the weather report. I am ready for spring!
Trapping seasons are about over for most species. As a whole, it has been a good year for most trappers. The fur prices look good too. The NAFA sale was very strong for most articles.
District meetings are just around the corner. Please plan to attend your district meetings. I plan to attend as many as possible.
The FTA Convention is coming up also. Dunkirk, NY is the setting for the June 23-25 convention. It should be a good time. I plan on being there.
Spring Hearings in each county are scheduled. Check out the dates for your area and try to attend and voice your opinions and vote. Concerns about the beaver situation in our state should be addressed at that time.
I’d also like to hear what your thoughts are concerning the split cat season. Do you have suggestions for next years season?
That’s about it for now. See you at the district rendezvous.
— Virgil Schroeder

DISTRICT 6 REPORT
District 6 members, just a reminder, June 18 is our rendezvous at Marshfield Fairgrounds. There will be a reminder mailed out a few weeks before the rendezvous, just to help keep everyone informed. Don’t forget about the demo’s, beaver, rat, canine’s and weasel, also the fur handling demo that NAFA is putting on. The food will be furnished by the district. It will be a good time, I’m sure looking forward to seeing everyone there. There are some really good items already for the walk around raffle.
Tickets for the main raffle will be available from your county directors, myself, and many other members (please call for names and phone numbers in your area if you need tickets). You may call me to request tickets and I will send them to you. Just call or email me your address. I could use some help in Clark and Monroe County’s if any one is interested in helping out please contact me. On another note, I sure hope some of you were able to get out in snow and to harvest late coon, fox, mink, rats, a beaver or two, maybe got a shot at a coyote. Winter trapping pictures with your kids are always some of the best you’ll ever take. If you need any information please contact me. Thanks.

DISTRICT 10 REPORT
I hope all of you had a safe and productive season. I would like to thank everyone who attended the District 10 Winter meeting at NAFA and the Spring Banquet in Wausa.
District 10 began a scholarship award in 2010. The original intent was that the recipient would be someone who someday would represent the interest of trapping and larger outdoor community from within governmental agencies and/or universities. Karl Malcolm, a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was our first recipient. He has proven himself an excellent choice. See his response to a column in the Capital Times by Patricia Randolph (see link below, paste into web browser.) If you are interested in Ms. Randolph’s original column there is a link to it within Karl’s response.
