MEDIA COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
We are getting ready for our January Fur Auction on January 7-9, 2011. With the 2011-12 season, a limit of one otter will be permitted so the trappers and fur graders are going to be getting some advance education about otter at the fur auction. The otter workshop will include otter skinning and fleshing and a special segment will provide basic information about otter grading to our graders, grading apprentices, and other interested trappers. It is free of charge and will be taught by John Coakley of Virginia. These events will be part of the continuing educational opportunities provided by the WVTA Education Program.
If your membership has expired, we urge you to renew your membership as soon as you can. Check the expiration date on your mailing lables on the newletters. We can assure you that your membership will be processed promptly and accurately. We can also assure you that you will receive a correct fur check, mailed within one week of the sale date.
We are looking for some new designs for our popular T-shirts. Submit your designs, in black and white, to Janet Hodge, 28 VanHorn Drive Glenville, WV 26351 or bring them to the January or March fur sales. The board will select a winner, or winners, in March, and the new shirts will be ready for the annual convention in September 2011. Winners will get an annual membership in WVTA, and of course a T-shirt.
We have diplomas for the following students who attended the September 2010 Trappers Education Class: Seth Kerby, Cody Linger, Amber Watson, and Ryan Miller. If the parents or students will call Janet Hodge, (304)462-5985 and give us an address, she will be happy to mail the diplomas to them.
Mark your calendars for the next Fur Auction and Spring Rendezvous for March 4-6, 2011 at the Gilmer County Recreation Center in Glenville, WV. The WV Muzzleloaders will also be having their spring shooting matches Saturday and Sunday. All events are open to the public.
Hope you all have had a good trapping season.
