PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Very little to report on this month.

The Western Washington fur sale will be held on the 21st of February at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. Ralph will be sending out a mailing with directions. Bring you furs to sell and something for the auction. Not sure at this time what else is lined up. Steve Brownell is making arrangements so if you have a question he’s the guy to call at 360-438-6305.

The legislature will be in session starting the 12th of January. Seems to be some renewed interest from legislatures in doing something about fixing the trapping laws. The WDFW has said they are going to send a bill up based on HB1606 from last session with some changes that were discussed at some meetings I attended. I don’t know what it will look like yet, but odds are it will not be to our liking.

We should know what it looks like by the fur sale and I plan to discuss it at the general meeting to find out what the membership thinks of it. If you remember from previous reports, I wrote a bill and sent it to our lobbyist Ed Owens and he sent it on to some of our supportive legislatures. Just have to wait and see which one comes to the front. I’d really like to see our bill gain some momentum. It would be a good bill if the legislature can overcome the idea of where it came from.

I’m heading down to Oregon for the month of January to do some trapping. I’ll be back and see you at the fur sale.

— Bruce Vandervort
