PRESIDENT’S REPORT
My time has been pretty well filled with the Puyallup Fair this month. A few encouraging things to report. First thing relates to the general attitude towards trapping expressed by the fairgoers. It seems to me the public is a lot more accepting of trapping then they have been in the past. In the past if you have ever worked the booth you’ll remember there would be people that wanted to be confrontational and also those who it was obvious were not approving of trapping if not confrontational. Not so this year. I heard nothing but praise for the booth and nary a negative comment about trapping. I did hear often though disdainful comments about Initiative-713.
Why you might ask has the public perception of the need for trapping changed? It could be because of the volumes of complaints about animal problems. Not so easy to dismiss trapping when the lack of effective control measures is personally effecting you.
Second is the number of people who came to the booth that were interested in trapping. Looks like quite a few people signed up for the Trapper Training class in October. Gave out a good number of membership applications also.
Some of you may remember that since our building was changed at the fair the numbers by the booth had dropped. This year the fair changed a few things and had an attraction near our building that brought a lot more people by the booth. Fair attendance was down I think but in spite of that we seemed to have more people by the booth. The last Saturday did have a huge attendance, over 140,000.
Anyway that’s all wrapped up and we have the Trapper Training class in a couple days. Then I’m going hunting. Thank you to all that helped out at the booth.
