MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY’S REPORT

Hello VTA members, Well, we need to give a big thank you out to Art Foltz for drafting the letter that went to all Virginia licensed trappers, and to Steve Colvin and Frances Richards for going through with sending them. The letter was very well written and we have had a great response. Our membership was down to 496 before our Convention in July, and we added about 35 members then. Because of the response from the trappers, our membership total is now 630. On the back of the letter was printed a VTA membership form and they have been coming in almost daily. Do not forget that nominations will be open on 1/1/2014 for our VTA Board elections. Please send your nominations to Winston Marshall at 804-240-3490 or winstonmarshall@nuisancewildlifeservices . I, especially, would like someone to step up for membership secretary. I have been doing this for 5 years, (2 for husband, Dickie, and almost 3 more). The VTA has it’s own laptop, printer, and laminator which I use. Once you get the hang of it, it is a “piece of cake”. I will not be able to continue as Membership secretary after this term. Please, everyone, give it some thought and nominate others for office. Do not forget about our VTA Fur Auction at Expoland in Fishersville on March 9, 2014. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and Happy New Year to all and to all in the VTA. — Diana Craig

NTA DIRECTOR’S REPORT

I hope everyone is getting outdoors and enjoying the hunting and trapping opportunities available here in Virginia. Our fur sale will be held at Augusta Expoland in Fishersville on March 8. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Nominations are now open for awards to be given to deserving members at our convention, also to be held at Augusta Expoland on July 11-13. A description of the awards is provided on the VTA website at http://www.virginiatrappers.org/index.htm. Please send nominations to me at larrynta@aol.com or call 540-891-4282. — Larry Kline

DISTRICT 1 REPORT

District 1 of the VTA fur sale will be March 1, 2014 at the Wytheville livestock market. We will be preregistering from Feb. 12-26 by calling me; 276-210-7105 from noon to 7pm. District 1 charges 3% sale commission for fur sold on the floor; no sales will not have to pay. It will be first come first serve basis. With fur prices up there will be a lot of people there to sell so if you don’t preregister then you need to get there early. We will start selling as soon as we have enough people there to sell. If you preregister you need to be there before the sale starts. Doors open at 6am. If you are not there you have to re-register when you get there. We will also need people to help work the floor and sign people up. Everyone that can help I would like to see at the Feb meeting. Tom Tyree from NAFA will be at the fur sale til around noon, to pick up fur for those who would like to ship. — Travis Bandy
