DISTRICT 8 REPORT
It’s hard to believe we’re in the final month of the season already. The farms we didn’t trap last season are producing well and some new areas have potential. As a hobby trapper, numbers don’t mean much to me. In fact, large numbers demand time I don’t usually have to spare. Quality time is more important than quantity of fur – the time I spend outdoors cutting sign and evaluating set locations; the anticipation and excitement of checking traps; and the satisfaction of tacking the fur to a board.
All is quiet on the Fredericksburg Watershed Management Plan front. I didn’t expect much action around the holiday season but hopefully now the City Council will finalize the issue by signing the document. Once they sign the plan, we’ll re-engage the City Attorney to start the process to change the City Code. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that the land will be open to trapping by the start of the 2011-2012 season.
The 2011 VTA Convention flyer, schedule of events, vendor layout, and volunteer list are posted on the VTA web site. Please contact potential vendors and demo providers and inform them of the event. We’ll need a host of volunteers to run the event so if you’re willing to help, give me a call [540-630-1756] or send an email [artfoltz@comcast.net] to add your name to the list.
Our next district meeting is scheduled for March 6th, 2011 at 6706 River Road, Fredericksburg. The meeting is purposely set one week prior to the VTA Fur Auction so we can provide a fur grading and valuation demonstration. A meeting announcement with site directions will be sent to district members and guests; however, the event is open to all trappers or trapping-interested persons. If you would like to attend, please contact me for details and directions.
