EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT
This is shaping up to be another active summer for the UTK. We have numerous educational activities lined up such as 4-H, Hunter Education, J.A.K.E.S. events, a Youth Safe Shooting Program, and more, up here in northern Kentucky. Elsewhere, others of us will be busy into the fall and even into trapping season, especially Stacy & Steve with the Southeast Kentucky members. In western Kentucky, Fred Stephens is busy setting up the Fall Fling in Hancock County.
We had a lengthy and productive officers’ meeting July 23 at Winchester, Clark County. Some items of discussion:
– Ferguson Scholarship – discussion regarding difficulty in finding qualified students to award money to, who are not influenced by the animal “rights” school of thought, and who appreciate Fish & Game Agencies, hunters, fishermen, trappers, etc. Also discussed was repeat funding for qualified students.
– Disposal (marketing) of our 2012 Bull Elk Tag. We seem to be leaning toward the same process, with few changes, but the issue was tabled for further review.
– Discussion of plans for the Fall Fling regarding food, demos, fundraising, etc.
– Request from N.T.A. for donation to support fur-promotion program. Agreed to donate $50.00.
– Support of Kentucky Conservation Officers’ Association for 2012. Agreed to support their magazine with a full page ad for 2012.
– Financial report from Dave Dykes and update on membership and magazine subscriptions.
– Discussion of animal “rights” activity against outdoorsmen/women and the K.D.F.R.W. by groups such as the Humane Society of the U.S.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Fall Fling. If you want to help out with work detail, activities, or a demo, please contact Fred Stephens at 270-927-6634. We encourage everybody to take advantage of our numerous supply dealers who will be there, and you save shipping costs. If you want to do your part to support fundraising, consider donating a nice item or two for the White Elephant sale and the Silent Auction. Last year we had a number of nice items donated for the ladies which was a real nice touch.
Also, we will be giving away a really nice camo shotgun with hardshell case. Be sure to buy some tickets to support UTK.
Until next month.
