ELECTION REPORT
2009 was an election year election results;
Officers reelected were President — W.R. Brecheisen Jr., Chanute, KS; Vice President — Roger Macy, Portis, KS; Treasurer — Pauline Brecheisen, Chanute, KS; NTA representative — Russ Voelker, Valley Falls, KS; and FTA representative — Robert Curry, Belleville, KS.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The 2009 KFHA rendezvous is behind us and it was a huge success. It was well attended; the vendors were pleased with their sales and the fundraising for the KFHA was greater than in many years. Thanks to District 16 for all their hard work and for putting on a great rendezvous. The 2010 as well as the 2011 KFHA rendezvous will be held in Osborne, KS. I’m sure District 3 with all their fine people will do a great job on the rendezvous. Make plans now to attend.
For those of you who were not at the general membership meeting, I am pleased to tell you that we have a couple of exciting programs in the works. I met with the coordinator for the Science Dept. of the Kansas Board of Education at the Kansas State Fair and she was very excited about our education packets. She hopes to make them available to any Kansas classroom as well as having someone available to do classroom presentations on fur harvesting. I am putting together a list of members that would do these presentations at schools. If you would be interested in educating our Kansas youth about fur harvesting conservation and management in your area, please contact me so I can put your name on our contact list. Being able to have the possibility that our education packets in every classroom in Kansas as well as our KFHA members doing presentations on fur harvesting would further the KFHA mission.
I also had a lengthy conservation with Wallace Weber from Dorrance, KS at the Kansas state fair. If you subscribe to the Kansas magazine you might have read the article where he is donating his land to Pheasants Forever for conservation of wildlife. He has asked if the KFHA would like to do programs on trapping for youth on this land to control the predator populations. This would be great publicity for us. Mr. Weber is now a lifetime member of the KFHA and I am looking forward to working with him as well as the Pheasants Forever organization on predator management on this land.
I hope have a very safe and productive fur harvesting season as we, the true sportsman, will be out catching fur not for the money but the true enjoyment it brings. May God Bless.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Hello Furharvesters:
What a great rendezvous we had in Yates Center the first weekend in October. A big Thank You needs to go out to John Borror and all of his helpers who made the rendezvous a great success and the food that they prepared was outstanding. A big thanks also to all the dealers who made the show and to all who put on demos throughout the weekend. It was great to see all and to meet and make new friendships with many.
As we now approach another furharvesting season, take extreme caution and respect to landowners and obey the regulations that are put forth for us to follow. First of all, get permission. If using bodygrip traps, use extreme caution on the placement, and make them as dog proof as possible. After the many unfortunate happenings over the years, especially last year, we the trappers are being monitored very closely. Remember, it is a privilege and not a right to be able to hunt and trap.
It was voted at the fall directors meeting not to have a December auction in 2009. Due to the fur sales and prices of furs, numbers are sure to be down. The Auction dates are Jan. 16 and Feb. 20. The doors will open at 7 a.m. at Sterhl Hall in Abilene, KS. The auction will start at 9 a.m. Numbers will be reserved starting 30 days prior to the first auction and your membership card must be presented at the door for proof of membership. To reserve a lot, call Roger at 785-346-2076 preferably between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Please bundle your furs and you will not be permitted more than five single bobcats. Help is always welcome to setup, and help is always needed to work the tables. It is your organization so help do your part, volunteer a little of your time and don’t rely on someone else to carry the load.
Has been a very enjoyable fall working with the youth at the fairs and education classes. Most were very well attended and the youth had an educational and enjoyable time. Thanks to all who helped with these events. This fall, when you go to the field, take a youth along, whether it be hunting or furharvesting and let a youth see and be involved with what is out there to enjoy. Remember the saying: “A little of your time. A time of your life.”
