STATE ORGANIZER’S REPORT

Coming up this October will be an election year. Now is not too soon to be thinking about whom the officers of the TFTA for the year 2009 to 2011. Please consider nominating any TFTA member for one or more of the officer positions (before doing so, please ask them first to see if they would be willing to run for that office).

Officers are elected for a term of two years by the membership at the annual fall meeting. The membership shall elect a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, state organizer, membership secretary and public relations/trapper education spokesman.

This year, the election committee chairman is Pat Pangle – 821 E. Big Richland Creek Rd, Waverly, TN 37101. Phone: 931-296-3446. The committee members are Clarence Dies, Phone: 615-449-4412, address: 34 Locke 5 Rd, Lebanon, TN 37087 and Roger Seward Phone: 731-584-3200, address 90 G & S Rock Ranch Road, Camden, TN 38320. Beginning July 24, 2009, you can begin making nominations. All nominations must be made before Sept. 12, 2009.
The New TFTA officers will be announced at the fall convention at Montgomery Bell State Park this October.

As the TFTA bylaws state, an election committee will be formed consisting of members who are not currently an officer of the association. Article VI of the bylaws states that “prior to the election, members in good standing shall make nominations for the officers of the association.”

Nominations can be made beginning 3 months before the annual fall meeting up until 6 weeks before the annual fall meeting. Nominations can be either mailed in writing or by a phone call to one of the members of the election committee. Once a nomination has been made to the election committee, it is the responsibility of the election committee to contact the nominee for their acceptance of the nomination.

After acceptance of the nomination, the election commission will then notify the election committee chairman so that the name can be entered on the ballot. Once all the nominations have been received, a ballot shall be prepared by the election committee chairman for mailing, no earlier than one month prior to the annual fall meeting. Voting members can choose to either bring their ballot in person to the annual fall meeting or return it by mail to the election committee chairman.

One official ballot and envelope shall be mailed to each member who has paid his/her dues. At the annual fall meeting, the ballots will be opened and counted in the presence of the general membership. The new officers will be announced at the fall meeting and will begin to serve their term.

I look forward to seeing you at the fall meeting.

— Chris Jacobsen
