PRESIDENT’S REPORT

At the time of this report, the TFTA East TN meeting at Cherokee Park and the TFTA Annual Fall Meeting at Montgomery Bell State Park have not yet been held. This is an election year for the TFTA. Look for the results of the election and meetings in the next issue of Trapper & Predator Caller Magazine. We are in the process of scheduling the TFTA Fur Auctions for the 2009 to 2010 trapping season.

The dates and the locations will be listed in the December issue of the Trapper & Predator Caller Magazine. I do not know what the outcome of fur prices will be for this season. Might be a good season just to get out there and experiment and have some fun. You might want to have a nice fur garment made with your fur or hold on until later and speculate on fur prices if they are low.

I understand that beaver castor prices are on the up and up. Europe is moving away from synthetics and going back to natural ingredients in perfume. So, if you are trapping beaver, hold on to the castors because there are buyers out there this season.

The battle to curtail raccoon rabies in East TN continues. Vaccine baits are once again being dropped in various counties of East TN. Treat suspicious animals with caution and always wear gloves when skinning your catch.

Have fun and trap ethically. Have a great Thanksgiving.

— Mike Renfro
