WILLIAM NED WESTON
On Saturday, 19 April, 2014, William Ned Weston went to be with his Savior. Our sincere condolences go out to Ned’s wife Sandy, and his family. We offer a heartfelt thank you to them for permitting Ned to be an integral part of our lives.
On Saturday 26 April, a memorial service was held in Ned’s honor at his church, the West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church in West Sunbury, PA. The memorial service included a ceremonial presentation by the Game Commission’s Honor Guard, with a flag bestowment to Ned’s wife Sandy. It is not surprising that there was standing room only.
In addition to Ned’s love for his family, Ned enjoyed a career of 36 years with the Pennsylvania Game Commission protecting the wildlife he loved, and enhancing wildlife habit to the extent of receiving honors from numerous wildlife organizations. Ned’s life was additionally committed to trapping. Ned held the position of vice president of the Pennsylvania Trapper’s Association.
To Ned, this position of vice president was not simply a name tag to affix to his shirt. Ned was totally committed to teaching, and reaching out to any individual or group he could reach, with the message of the importance of scientific wildlife management.
In 2008, Ned was inducted into the Pennsylvania Trappers Association Hall of Fame. Ned commented, “Of the numerous recognitions I may have received over the years, this recognition means more to me than any of the others.”
To do justice to Ned’s commitment to wildlife and his fellow man would require an entire book. Words truly can not do justice to Ned’s influence on us and the wildlife of Pennsylvania.
When Charlie Sykes was asked to express his thoughts on Ned, he stated: “Ned’s wisdom with the PGC & PTA, and humor on the BOD, were second to none! Ned’s willingness to help or tackle any project for the PTA is an inspiration to us all. Ned’s personal relationship with his Lord, Jesus Christ, and his testimony that all was well between him and his creator – Priceless today!”
