Hello All from Southern Oklahoma,
With trapping season in full swing it sounds like most of the furs were sold out. We should have as good or better fur market, Hopefully..
Monte Dodson sent me a very interesting article out of a paper during the 1945-46 fur season.
His letter said— These are several things worth noting. One is that opossum and skunk made up over 80% of the season fur catch. Also note the number of muskrats taken against we get today. Not shown but part of the skunk catch had to include civet cats my last one was in 1944. Of course the muskrat price had to have an influence on the trappers interest but also the abundance of each species during that time. I remember walking 6 miles just to see what a coon track looked like.

Oklahoma Trappers Get 271,837 Animals
Trappers in Oklahoma brought in a total of 271,837 fur-bearing animals during the 1945-46 fur year, it was reported by the fish and wildlife service Friday.
The state catch included 185,000 possum; 56,900 skunks, 13,835 muskrats; 6,136 mink; 6,791 raccoons; 1,911 coyotes and 85 wolves.
I thought this was very interesting and wanted to share it will all.
The OFBA youth camp at Verden,Ok will start Dec 27 thru 30. I hope we have as good weather as we had last year. Anyone who would like to show up and help are welcome.
Remember the Feb 2, 2013 fur sale at Chandler. We made some changes to help speed up the sale and make it go smoother.
The second fur sale will be on March 2,2013 in Okemah as it has a lot more room and all can get in out of the weather, it should be a lot nicer for all.
For now I hope your traps stay full and the stretcher get that way.
