SECRETARY’S REPORT

So far, the trapping season has been enjoyable. This means not a lot of fur, but still fun. I find myself planning out a lot of traps, but the old body says who are you kidding? The deer season is also in full swing now and I find myself out checking traps instead of hunting. The deer numbers seem to be down and if you ask some of the hunters, there are no deer. I am not real serious about hunting due to the mild weather and not seeing a single critter while sitting in my blind.

There isn’t much going on otherwise. Just that I heard that one of our members, Bob Robarts, went to Barrow, Alaska to trap arctic fox. To me, this dream comes true. I am wondering if he goes again, will he need a pack horse? If he does, I will volunteer to be that horse. We have a new lifetime member and his name is Dave Shearer. Dave, thanks for your confidence and support of our organization.

Just a reminder. The annual dinner will be held on Feb. 20, 2010. It will be at the Rudyard Township Community Building. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. at which time the dinner will start. The cost for a trapper and one guest will be $9 per person and any additional guests will be $12 per person. Coffee and punch will be provided. If you wish to have something else, you will have to bring it. If you plan to go make sure you get your reservations and money into Mark Spencer by the 10th of February. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Our next meeting will be in Gaylord on the 20th of January at the Northland Sportsman Club and will start at 7:30 p.m.

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

— Jim
