PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Just a short note this month.
1. Plans continue for the summer event. As Chris Flann noted in this past issue of the Dakota Skinner, mark your calendar for Sept. 10-12, 2010. Chris will keep us posted on how things are coming along, but don’t hesitate to give him a call to share your ideas or volunteer to help.
2. The fundraising committee is looking at a calendar raffle for the month of July. Look for that in your mail around June.
3. The winter meet is Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Joann Hetzel 4-H Building in Bismarck. The building is just east of the Game and Fish Headquarters. Activities begin at 8:30 a.m. and will wrap up around 4 p.m. There will be short briefings from Game and Fish and on the Badger and Skunk BMP research conducted this past year. The meet wouldn’t be complete without supplies for sale, a short meeting and an enjoyable auction. We’re going to try something new this year — we’ll have a couple of work stations set up and tools available for anyone who is interested in getting some experience on fur handling. We should have all of the equipment and critters there for you, just jump in and get to it. There will be some folks around to provide some tips and techniques to proper fur handling, so you won’t be alone. It’s all about learning and practicing the right way to do things. We’re open to the public and free of charge. Plan on spending the day and having some fun!
4. As of this writing, I’m compiling the results of the membership survey. Thank you to everyone who participated, and for those of you who might have forgot to send it in, find it, fill it out and send it to me. Your input and feedback is important to us. Right now we’re at about a 75 percent return rate, which is great! There has been a lot of good information, comments, views and feedback returned with the surveys. Thank you again! This information will be used for future planning and our participation with the NDGFD Furbearer Workgroup. I’ll post a short report of the survey results (less the written comments) in the next issue of the T&PC. If you’d like a complete copy, let me know.
5. Remember to keep your membership current and be informed. As we go about our business calling or trapping, consider sharing your travels and experiences with someone who has yet to know these activities. Until next time, take care, be safe and responsible and enjoy what Mother Nature and North Dakota have to offer.
Catch ‘ya.
— Rick Tischaefer
